1. Google launches Gemini (and rebrands Bard)

Google’s Bard has been rebranded to Gemini, introducing a new mobile app and an advanced version called Gemini Advanced, aimed at enhancing AI collaboration.

Gemini Advanced offers access to Ultra 1.0, Google's most advanced AI model (and a potentially a major competitor to OpenAI’s GPT-4), boasting improved capabilities in complex tasks such as coding, logical reasoning, and creative projects.

How does it compare to other models in the real world? Ethan Mollick recently wrote an article after he tested it for over a month with early access, and the Neuron did an in-depth comparison of Gemini Ultra vs. GPT-4.

Gemini Advanced is free to use for the first 2 months, and then costs $19.99/ month after that.

A recent article by MIT’s Sloan Management Review highlighted five key trands for both AI and data science in 2024.

Here’s a quick summary for leaders:

  • Generative AI's High Expectations vs. Actual Value: Despite widespread excitement about generative AI, actual economic value delivery is still in the early stages, with most companies experimenting rather than deploying at scale.

  • From Artisanal to Industrial Data Science: The production of data science models is transitioning from a bespoke to an industrial process, with increased investment in platforms and tools to enhance productivity and deployment rates.

  • Divergent Views on Data Products: Organizations are split in their definition of data products, with some including analytics and AI in the concept and others viewing them as separate entities.

  • Changing Role of Data Scientists: The once 'sexiest job of the 21st century' is evolving, with the rise of citizen data science and automation tools reducing the exclusivity and demand for professional data scientists.

  • Leadership Consolidation in Data and AI: The trend towards integrating data, analytics, and AI leadership roles into broader technology and digital transformation functions is increasing, aiming for more cohesive strategy and execution.

3. One Prompt You Can Use at Work Today

Here’s a practical ChatGPT Prompt you can use at work:

I'd like to change [task] of our team to [objective]. What might be the objections and concerns of the [role] about [task]?

For example,

I'd like to change the on-call schedule of our team to better meet the needs of our customers. What might be the objections and concerns of the engineers about the schedule change?

If you would like to see more of those prompts, check out my free book called: ChatGPT for Better Business Communication.
