1. Nvidia’s CEO on AI: IT Departments are the New HR
At the CES 2025 keynote, Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang sees a future where IT departments will manage AI agents much like HR manages people.
So instead of only fixing servers, future IT teams will hire, train, and oversee digital workers (i.e., AI agents) tailored to a company’s culture and processes.
This make sense because as AI systems get smarter by the day, and AI agents are able to handle more complex tasks, IT leaders will shift to focus on how to enable those agents the right way for their specific organizations.
Here’s a 30-second video of him talking about this:
Ethan Mollick, however, sees it a bit differently.
Given that AI works a lot like people, and that human experts are often the only ones who can judge the quality of AI results, “IT departments as the new HR” is a mistake.
You don’t want IT alone decide how work gets done. You need managers who understand how to work with AI.

Regardless of what perspective you agree with, one thing continues to be clear:
AI agents will be used at organizations, whether by IT departments or by individual functional managers. So it’s a good idea to start preparing for that.
